only full-time professor of PR, was appointed last night
during the launch of University Centre Calderdale, a HE
centre in Halifax which Professor Gregory has been instrumental
in setting up.

with National Trust to build energy-efficient homes

The School of the Built Environment ‘Centre for the
Built Environment’ (CeBE) is working with the National
Trust on the Stamford Brook housing project, a development
of 710 new houses on National Trust land at Dunham Massey,
near Altrincham, Cheshire. The development is a unique partnership
between the National Trust, Redrow Homes and Bryant Homes
which will release valuable revenue for the upkeep of the
Dunham Massey Estate, in addition to providing much needed
housing for the area.

Sixteen members of the Xiamen Development and Reform Commission
are visiting Leeds Business School and the university this
week. The visit is part of a three week short course, organised
by the European Regional Business and Economic Development

Why do women live longer than men? The answer lies with
men’s lifestyle and risk taking. That is the message
from new research published by Professors Alan White and
Mike Holmes of the Centre for Men’s Health at Leeds
Met. They conclude that men’s lifestyle seems to be
a major factor in their rates of premature death, from the
physical risk associated with road traffic accidents to
the personal lifestyle risk associated with smoking, poor
diet and alcohol consumption.

Great Student Run
Over 1,500 students, staff and alumni from across the
country took part in the Great
Student Run which was started by
athlete Tracey Morris and Leeds Met Chancellor Brendan
Foster at Headingley Carnegie Stadium. Over 150 institutions,
including schools, further education colleges and 50 universities,
were represented by runners.

The men’s football 2nd team have succeeded in beating Essex 2-1 to win the BUSA Plate final. The match, which was
held in Essex, is a fantastic end to the team’s unbeaten run in BUSA this year; the win should also secure
promotion to a higher league next season.
